Efficient Street LED Lighting
The objective of this investment scheme is the modernization of the current lighting infrastructure and installation of a smart management system for the Region's road network. The current lighting infrastructure is old, inadequate and cannot support the deployment of LED technology. It is planned that around 55,000 street lighting luminaries will be replaced with LED technology, reducing significantly the consumption of the lighting network and providing better lighting conditions to traffic. New equipment is expected to allow regulation of the lighting levels in accordance with the specific needs and also to control and monitor the new LED equipment, including energy consumption.
The municipalities own approximately 50,000 luminaries, while the remaining 5,000 are owned by the Region of South Aegean. The Region and the municipalities are responsible for the costs related to electricity consumption and maintenance of the existing street lighting network .
The current electricity consumption of the street lighting system of the Region is around 22.7 GWh/y and the proposed energy efficiency measures will contribute to reduce energy consumption to 7.1 GWh/y, thus reducing the annual energy consumption by 15.6 GWh.
